OAKLAND — An 18-year-old man who told police he was shot Thursday night while riding in a car, was recovering Friday, authorities said.
The man was dropped off by someone at a hospital about 8:17 p.m. Thursday and was being treated for a graze wound to his head. His condition was not available.
Police said the man would only say he was in a car when he heard gunfire and realized he had been wounded. It was not clear if he was driving the vehicle or was a passenger.
He became uncooperative and police were able to determine through a ShotSpotter alert that the man had apparently been shot in the 1500 block of 33rd Avenue in the Fruitvale district. No other injuries were reported.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined and no arrests have been made.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
