OAKLAND — A man who died June 18 after being struck by a BART train in East Oakland was identified by the coroner’s office Monday as Detron Nelson, 22.
The coroner’s office did not have an address for Nelson nor did it list an occupation for him.
The release of his name was delayed until the coroner’s office could find and notify his next of kin.
Nelson died after he was hit by a six-car BART train about 11:35 a.m. June 18 that was running northbound on the Fremont-Warm Springs line on tracks that parallel East Eighth Street near 10th Avenue. Where the fatality happened is between the Lake Merritt and Fruitvale BART stations.
Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene after firefighters removed him from underneath the train.
The fatality caused extensive delays for BART service and AC Transit provided buses for BART riders to get to various stations.
BART officials said Monday police are still investigating the death and that no other details were available.
