OAKLAND — It took firefighters more than an hour Tuesday morning to control a house fire in the Oakland hills, officials said.

The fire started at the multi-story home on Eastwood Court just off off Shepherd Canyon Road about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday and was not declared under control until 11:56 a.m., officials said. The home has a garage on the lower level and two floors above that, officials said.

There were no injuries or rescues. Five adult residents were displaced by the fire and were being assisted by the Red Cross.  Only one was home when the fire started.

The fire started in a room on the upper level of the house and the majority of the damage was contained to the room Acting Battalion Fire Chief John Farrell said.  There was minor smoke and water damage to other parts of the home.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.  A damage figure was not available.

At least 25 firefighters responded to the scene.
