OAKLAND — A 19-year-old Hayward man was wounded by gunfire Thursday night as he rode in a car in East Oakland, police said Friday.

Other occupants of the vehicle were not hurt.

The shooting happened about 10:20 p.m. in the 7600 block of Arthur Street. Besides the man wounded, who was a passenger, there were at least three other occupants in the car, all men in their 20s. One lived in Oakland, one in San Leandro and the other in Antioch, authorities said.

The men told police they were driving when they heard gunfire and saw the victim had been hit.  They drove to a hospital in another city before  the victim was transferred to another hospital where he was in stable condition.

Two houses in the area were also hit by gunfire but no one else was hurt. Police don’t have a motive yet for the shooting or why the men were in East Oakland and have not made any arrests.

The Thursday night shooting is just a few blocks from where a 21-year-old woman was shot Wednesday night as she rode in a car in the area of 78th Avenue and Arthur Street. No arrests have been made in that case and police said it was too early to say if the shootings are connected.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering  up to $8,000 in reward money in Thursday’s shooting for information leading to the arrest of the shooter and up to $7,500 in the Wednesday night shooting.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
