Man critically wounded in East Oakland shooting

OAKLAND — A 26-year-old man shot Thursday night in East Oakland was in critical but stable condition Friday at a hospital, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 6 p.m. Thursday in the 10600 block of Russett Street, just south of San Leandro Street and near BART tracks.

Police responding to reports of a shooting found the man lying on the pavement being helped by others. He was then transported to a hospital.

Witnesses told police some men fled from the scene before officers arrived, but it was not known if they were possible suspects or other people who may have been shot at. No other injuries were reported.

No motive has been determined yet for the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
