Woman critically injured in Oakland hit-run

OAKLAND — A woman crossing a street  Wednesday night in East Oakland was critically injured when she was struck by a car that continued on without stopping, police said Thursday.

Police were trying to identify the woman.

The woman was hit at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday in the 2900 block of High Street near Penniman Avenue.

Police said the woman was walking across High Street in a marked crosswalk when a  1990s Ford Mustang, dark in color, that was going south on High Street, struck her and knocked her to the pavement. Police said the driver did not stop and continued driving the Mustang south on High Street.

The woman was taken to a hospital with severe head and other injuries.

Police said it is unknown if  alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. A detailed description of the driver has not been released.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver of the Mustang.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
