Man fatally shot at Oakland homeless camp identified

OAKLAND — A man shot to death Tuesday night at a West Oakland homeless camp was identified by police Thursday as 39-year-old James Hood II.

No motive has been determined yet for the killing and no arrests have been made.

The shooting happened about 9:16 p.m. Tuesday at the camp in the 600 block of 23rd Street at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Police said Hood, who they believe lived at the camp, was working on a  bicycle when he was shot.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured.
