OAKLAND — Two men, one at a homeless camp, were fatally shot about 15 minutes apart Tuesday in West Oakland, authorities said Wednesday.

The shootings are not related.

The first shooting, at the homeless camp, happened at 9:16 p.m. in the 600 block of 23rd Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Police said a 39-year-old man they believe lived at the camp was shot while working on a bicycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene; his name has not been released.

Sgt. Brad Baker said police are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting and have not made any arrests.

The second shooting happened at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Center Street.

Authorities said Ramone Lacy, 23, of Oakley, was found wounded on a sidewalk, then was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are still trying to determine why Lacy was in the neighborhood where he was shot and what the motive for the shooting was. No arrests have been made.

The two killings were the 72nd and 73rd homicides of the year in Oakland. Last year at this time there were 68 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in each killing for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
