OAKLAND — An 18-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday night at an East Oakland party, police said Sunday.
He was identified as Mohamed Soumah, who authorities said had recently moved to Oakland from Berkeley.
He was found shot about 10:08 p.m. Saturday in the rear area of a home in the 2100 block of 47th Avenue after police responded to a Shot Spotter alert and other calls. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Jason Turned said Soumah was attending a party in the rear of the home when he got into a dispute with someone and was shot. No one else was hurt.
The shooter fled before officers arrived and police have not determined what the dispute was about.
The killing is Oakland’s 70th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 66 homicides in the city.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
