MORAGA — A case that began with a tip from a national agency ended with the arrest Wednesday of a 21-year-old man on suspicion of possessing hundreds of images of child pornography, authorities said.

Ruben Nicholas Diaz was arrested after a search warrant was served at a residence he was renting on San Pablo Court, where police said they found the images on multiple computers.

Moraga Chief of Police Jon King said other people also lived at the home but that it does not appear they were aware of Diaz’s suspected activities.

The warrant was served by Moraga police as part of the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, along with other task force investigators.

King said in the investigation began a week ago after a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a person at the residence was in possession of child pornography.

Based on interviews and evidence collected at the scene, Diaz was arrested on suspicion of possession of child pornography and booked at the Contra Costa County Jail on $100,000 bail.

King said “these types of crimes that target our children are especially bad and we hope that through this arrest we have prevented future crimes.”

Moraga police were assisted by investigators from the Contra Costa County District Attorney and Sheriff’s Office and the US Secret Service, all of whom are members of the ICAC Task Force.

The investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information about the incident or Diaz is asked to call Moraga Corporal William Davis at 925-888-7161 or via e-mail at davis@moraga.ca.us.
