OAKLEY — A 17-year-old Bay Point youth was arrested early Sunday after leading police on a vehicle chase that reached speeds in excess of 100 mph before the suspect crashed, authorities said Monday.
The youth, whose gender was not released, appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic and was treated at a hospital before being booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall, police said.
The chase of several miles started around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when officers spotted a car speeding on Laurel Road near Rose Avenue.
Police tried to stop the car but the driver drove off and got onto Cypress Road, accelerating to more than 100 mph at some points, authorities said.
When the driver got to the intersection of Cypress and Bethel Island roads, the car went out of control and stuck a sign pole, disabling the car. The driver ran from the car but was captured by police.
Police said the suspect was booked on suspicion of a variety of charges but did not say what they were.
