HAYWARD — A man shot by a Hayward police officer during an incident Thursday night has died from his injuries, police said Friday afternoon.
Authorities did not identify the man immediately, and police were tight-lipped regarding the incident. They referred reporters to a statement on the department’s Facebook page. They noted about 3:30 p.m. that the man had died from the shooting.
The shooting happened after officers responded Thursday to the 24000 block of O’Neil Avenue about 9 p.m. after receiving a report of a man armed with a weapon, police said.
Police said in their Facebook statement only that the man is suspected of holding “edged” weapon. They provided no other details.
No officers were injured, police said.
Detectives are working with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office on the investigation, and they ask the public for patience. They said all updates will come through their social media pages.
Any witnesses to the incident that led to the police arrival are urged to call Hayward police at 510-293-7034.
