OAKLAND — A 51-year-old man was shot in a West Oakland store parking lot Monday night, authorities said.

The Oakland man was reported to be in stable condition at a hospital Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened about 6:20 p.m. Monday in a parking lot at State Market Liquor in the 700 block of Willow Street, police said.

Police said the man told officers he was driving through the lot when someone began shooting at his vehicle.

The suspect fled in another vehicle before police responded to the scene.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation. Police said that the victim and the person who shot them were involved in a “verbal dispute,” which escalated when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim before fleeing.

No arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released by police.

Police said there was also another victim who was injured but was not struck by the gunfire. They were treated at the scene

Anyone with information about the shooting may call police at 510-238-3426 or 510-238-7950. Anyone with videos or photos related to the shooting can email them to cidvideo@oaklandca.gov.
