OAKLAND — A man was found dead near a West Oakland freeway exit early Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau was in the process of trying to identify the man and contact his family before releasing his name.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the man’s cause of death.
Authorities said he appeared to have been dead for several days.
The body was in a grassy area north of the 7th Street exit on northbound Interstate 880 near the main Oakland Post Office, authorities said. The CHP said it first received reports about the body about 5:30 a.m. but have not said who they came from.
Traffic slowed down in that area of I-880 but not enough for the CHP to issue a Sig Alert for a severe backup.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
