OAKLAND — A man and a woman were wounded in two shootings that happened within seven hours Sunday in different areas of the city, authorities said.
Both victims were reported to be in stable condition on Monday morning. The shootings are not believed to be related, authorities said.
About 10:23 p.m. Sunday a 36-year-old man was shot in the leg near the intersection of 45th and Market streets in North Oakland. He was able to make it to a nearby alleyway where police found him. He was given first aid at the scene before being taken to a hospital.
The shooter was another man who fled on foot before officers got to the scene, police said. Police are trying to determine if the two men knew each other and what prompted the shooing.
About 3:42 p.m. a 25-year-old woman was shot in the hip in the 200 block of East 18th Street near Lake Merritt, authorities said.
The woman, an Oakland resident, was shot after getting into a verbal and physical dispute with two other people, authorities said. The suspects fled before police responded to the scene. The wounded woman was found in the street and was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital.
Police were trying to confirm what the dispute was about.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money in each shooting for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
