OAKLAND — A 27-year-old man was wounded by gunfire Wednesday night in what he told police was a drive-by shooting in the Fruitvale district, authorities said.

The man was in stable condition at a hospital, where he was recovering from a wound to his thigh.

The man told police he was walking with some other people about 11:27 p.m. Wednesday in the 3600 block of Foothill Boulevard when someone in a passing car began shooting at them. He was the only one hit by the gunfire.

He was able to make it to his nearby home where police and paramedics were called.

Police were trying to determine a motive for the shooting and whether the man was the intended target. No suspect information was released and no arrests were announced.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
