OAKLAND — A 60-year-old Newark man was fatally shot Monday afternoon in East Oakland, the city’s fourth homicide in two days, authorities said.

The man’s name was not immediately released.

The shooting happened about 4:58 p.m. Monday in the 4200 block of Jensen Street near High Street.

The man was standing outside when he was confronted by at least one other man, who shot him before fleeing, authorities said. The wounded man died at the scene.

Investigators were still working to determine a motive and figure out why the man was in Oakland.. No arrests were announced.

The killing is the 72nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the fourth fatal shooting in the city since Sunday. None of the four killings appear to be related, authorities said. Last year at this time police had investigated 77 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.

A 38-year-old man was shot to death just before 3 a.m. in the Uptown district, while a 23-year-old man was shot and killed in the 9200 block of E Street around 5:43 a.m. Roughly 12 hours later, a 31-year-old man was fatally shot in the 5800 block of Bancroft Avenue.
