OAKLAND — A woman found dead Friday afternoon inside an RV at a West Oakland homeless camp had traumatic injuries to her body, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Saturday. The name of the woman, believed to be in her 40s, has not yet been released.

She was found about 3:07 p.m. Friday inside the vehicle which was parked at an encampment in the 1400 block of 13th Street between Mandela Parkway and Center Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cause of death and when it occurred will be determined by an autopsy. But because of the traumatic injuries to her body, police are investigating the death as a homicide. No motive or arrests have been announced.

The woman had lived at the camp “for a long time” and was a “nice lady,” another camp resident said

Saturday.

The death is the 60th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time, police had investigated 67 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
