OAKLAND — A nine-months pregnant woman was shot Wednesday night as she rode in a vehicle in East Oakland, authorities said.

The 25-year-old Oakland woman was wounded in the chest and was in stable condition, authorities said. Her unborn child was not hurt.

Authorities said the woman was a passenger in a vehicle driven by another person.

They were driving southbound on 77th Avenue and were about to make a turn onto westbound International Boulevard about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday when three people standing outside on the corner began shooting at the vehicle, police said. The shooting activated a gunshot detection system, authorities said.

The woman was the only one hit by the gunfire. The other person drove them to 73rd Avenue and International Boulevard where police were contacted and the woman was transported to a hospital.

Police recovered numerous shell casings at the site of the shooting.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation. Police believe the people inside the vehicle were intended targets.

Detailed descriptions of the shooters have not been released. No arrests were announced.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrests of the shooters. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
