OAKLAND — A West Oakland robbery and carjacking Wednesday evening left a 17-year-old suspect and two police officers injured after the stolen vehicle collided with the officers’ SUV, authorities said.

The victim of the robbery and carjacking was also treated at a hospital for complaints of pain and a panic attack, authorities said..Authorities said undercover officers working an unrelated case saw the robbery and carjacking happen about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 43rd and Market streets.

A man was confronted by several people; he was robbed at gunpoint of his wallet and had his Nissan van taken, police said.

The 17-year-old carjacking suspect fled in the van and was joined in a caravan by several other vehicles, police said.

Officers in marked vehicles briefly pursued the stolen vehicle but called off the pursuit and let the police helicopter continue to follow the caravan, authorities said

The vehicles in the caravan began to split up.

One of them, a Toyota, was stopped by an officer in the area of 32nd and Linden streets.

Two officers in a marked SUV were responding to that location when the van taken in the carjacking collided with them at 32nd and West streets, authorities said. The impact caused the 17-year-old boy who was inside the van to be ejected onto the pavement.

A gun was later found outside the van.

The officers and the boy were taken to hospitals and were eventually treated and released.

Besides the vehicle stopped at 32nd and Linden streets, another vehicle in the caravan was also recovered nearby. Two men, ages 23 and 26, were arrested at 32nd and Linden.

A second 17-year-old boy was also arrested in the area. All four suspects were arrested on suspicion of carjacking and robbery, authorities said.

The police investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call robbery investigators at 510-238-3326.
