OAKLAND — Four people, including an 8-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl hit by stray bullets, were injured in Oakland shootings that happened within six hours Wednesday in different areas of the city, authorities said.

The children did not require hospitalization, authorities said. None of the shootings appear to be related at this time, according to investigators.

The girl was injured in a shooting that happened about 9:07 p.m. Wednesday in the 9900 block of MacArthur Boulevard.

Police said a 44-year-old man was shot multiple times by someone who confronted him outside on the street.

A stray bullet grazed the head of the girl, who was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped nearby, police said. She was treated and released at the scene.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable.

A motive for the shooting was under investigation. No arrests were announced.

About 9:50 p.m. a 67-year-old ice cream cart vendor was shot multiple times in the 5500 block of Harvey Avenue in East Oakland. He was in stable condition at a hospital.

Police said he was shot after a verbal exchange with another person, who fled before police got to the scene. What prompted the shooting is under investigation.

The 8-year-old boy, a Berkeley resident, was wounded about 3:22 p.m. Wednesday in the 5100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way in North Oakland.

Police said four men were shooting at a man in a vehicle. The intended target was not hurt, but a stray bullet hit the boy, who was in a passing vehicle, in the elbow. He went to a hospital and was treated and released, authorities said.

Dozens of shell casings were found at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.

The four suspects fled in a car that was found abandoned a short time later several blocks away near an onramp to Interstate 980. A motive for the shooting has not been determined, but police have not ruled out the possibility it was an attempted robbery.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in the MacArthur Boulevard shooting and up to $5,000 in the other shootings for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3326 or 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
