SAN LEANDO — A man died Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a train, shutting down the Bay Fair BART station on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Authorities were trying to confirm the man’s name on Thursday.
Officials said the man was struck by a train about 12:46 p.m. Wednesday while he was on the tracks. He died there.
Why the man was on the tracks has not been released by officials. But BART police said a review of video revealed no suspected foul play or criminal activity.
Both BART police and Alameda County firefighters responded to the station for the incident. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office later took custody of the body.
BART issued a statement just before 1 p.m. saying that there was a station closure at Bay Fair in the Dublin/Pleasanton, Berryessa, Richmond and Daly City directions due to a major medical emergency.
BART also said at 1:11 p.m. that there was no Green line service between Berryessa and Daly City.
AC Transit buses were helping to move riders. Bus lines 10, 34 and 35 run from San Leandro, Bay Fair and Hayward. Bus 28 runs from San Leandro, Bay Fair and Castro Valley. Bus 48 runs from Bay Fair, Castro Valley and Hayward.
The station reopened about 3:15 p.m.
