OAKLAND — A 36-year-old man died Sunday after a shooting at a North Oakland motel, authorities said.
His identity was not released, pending next-of-kin notification by the coroner’s office.
Just before noon, police responded to reports of a possible shooting in the 700 block of West MacArthur Boulevard in the city’s Longfellow neighborhood.
When officers arrived minutes later at the Capri Motel, at 722 West MacArthur Blvd., they learned that a man had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the motel.
Police have not said if the man was staying at the motel or visiting someone there.
A motive for the shooting was under investigation. No arrests were announced.
Traffic in the westbound lanes of West McArthur Boulevard was shut down while police investigated.
The killing is the 35th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.
Police had investigated 40 homicides within the city at this same point in 2022.
