BERKELEY — A man whose body was found Monday evening in the Berkeley Marina was identified by the coroner’s office as a Florida resident recently reported missing by his family and last known to be in the area of the Golden Gate Bridge, authorities said.

Authorities said Vittorio Marianecci Sr., 57, of Miami, was the brand manager for an Italian wine company who was last seen in Florida on April 26.

His body was found about 5 p.m. Monday floating in the water near the Berkeley Marina by a kite surfer. He was found not far from the former location of HS Lordships Restaurant.

The cause of death and how it will be classified are pending, the coroner’s office said.

Marianecci’s family had reported him missing to San Francisco police earlier Monday. He had reportedly told family and friends he was flying to the West Coast for a wine industry event.

Family members told Florida media that they had tracked an Uber ride he had requested to the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center on April 28. San Francisco police said his phone locations had not been tracked since his arrival and through the course of the investigation he “was last seen entering Marin County on Friday, April 28, 2023, at an unknown time.”

In the statement, San Francisco police said Marianecci “is considered ‘at risk’ due to statements that may put him as a danger to himself.”

Marianecci’s body was the second to be found within a month in the same area of the marina. On April 10, a woman identified by the coroner’s office as Sophonia McLendon, 52, of El Cerrito, was found there. Her cause of death and its classification are still pending.

Berkeley police said there are no connections between the two deaths.
