OAKLAND — One person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Tuesday afternoon near Oakland City Hall, authorities said.
The condition of the other person shot was not immediately available.
The shooting happened about 2:15 p.m. in the area of 14th Street and Broadway. One of the victims was apparently shot in the chest and died later at a hospital, authorities said.
A suspect was seen running northbound on Broadway after the shooting, authorities said. A motive for the shooting was under investigation.
Streets in the downtown area were blocked off while police investigated.
A City Council meeting happening at the time of the shooting briefly went into recess, after City Hall employees reported hearing several shots. The meeting later resumed.
