DUBLIN — A 6-year-old Modesto boy and his mother reunited Tuesday, while his father and another of his sons were behind bars on suspicion that they kidnapped him, authorities said.
Modesto police confirmed Tuesday morning that Jayce Cosso was safe and back with his mother. Authorities had been searching for him since Monday around 7:25 a.m., when they received reports of a child abduction in Modesto.
Officers arrested John Cosso, 41, and his 17-year-old son at the La Quinta Inn on Dublin Boulevard around 8 a.m., according to a statement from Modesto police. Jayce Cosso wasn’t harmed.
Authorities shortly after finding the boy cancelled an Amber Alert put out for Jayce on Monday.
According to police, John Cosso is suspected of forcing his way into the home of Jayce’s mother on Poinsettia Drive in Modesto along with five other people and forcibly taken Jayce. Police said they received numerous tips through the night, which led them to the La Quinta Inn.
Police still were conducting interviews later Tuesday and said they are trying to identify other suspects.
Dublin police and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office also helped with the investigation.
Modesto police told KCRA that the father went to his home on Poinsettia Drive with five other people and used pepper spray to force his way inside. Jayce’s mother tried to flee with the boy in her car, but the car Cosso arrived in blocked her, according to the news station.
