SAN LEANDRO — A man was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation Tuesday morning after BART police were told he pulled a woman he thought had been using drugs off a train at the Bay Fair Station, authorities said.
But no drugs were found, and the woman did not want to press criminal charges against the 61-year-old man, police said.
Authorities said police were alerted by a passenger of the confrontation on board a Dublin line train about 5 a.m.
BART Lt. Jason Scott said the man apparently thought the woman had been using drugs on the train and decided to take action. The man did not know the woman, he said.
But the woman, who was uncooperative, did not appear to be under the influence of drugs, and none were found on her, authorities said. She told officers she was not going to press charges and left the station, Scott said.
It was decided to take the man to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.
Authorities said trains were delayed about 18 minutes while police investigated.
