Man killed in Oakland hit-and-run collision

OAKLAND — A man died Sunday night after he was struck in East Oakland by a vehicle that kept going, authorities said.

Police were trying to identify the man, who they said appeared to be in his 60s.

The collision happened at 10:11 p.m. Sunday at 62nd Avenue and Bancroft Avenue..

Police found the badly injured man lying in a westbound traffic lane. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported a silver or white pickup truck driving westbound on Bancroft immediately after the collision, police said. There was no information about the driver.

Police said it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in what happened.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver. Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
