LIVERMORE — A woman and a man who tried to help her were stabbed Sunday night and the woman’s boyfriend was later arrested as a suspect in the attack after a standoff with police during which he stabbed himself, authorities said.
Police said the woman stabbed is 22 and lived at the residence where the stabbing happened. The man stabbed is a Livermore resident who the suspect did not know, police said.
They were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening wounds.
The stabbing happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday on Placer Circle where the woman and suspect lived, authorities said.
The woman was stabbed inside a residence. What prompted the stabbing has not yet been released.
The other victim, a bystander, was stabbed outside the residence where he was trying to help the woman call police, authorities said.
When police got to the scene the suspect, a 22-year-old Livermore man, ran away and barricaded himself in a nearby backyard, authorities said.
After more than 30 minutes of negotiating with police, the suspect surrendered. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of self-inflicted knife wounds which police said happened before he was located by police and while he was talking to officers. The weapon, a pocket knife, was recovered, police said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
