OAKLAND — A man seen with a gun Thursday morning at an East Oakland apartment complex was arrested without incident after a three-hour search that had police shutting down parts of International Boulevard and surrounding streets, authorities said.

The man’s name and age were not immediately released.

After his arrest at 10:23 a.m., police scoured the yard  in the 5800 block of International Boulevard where he was found  as well as other areas to make sure no guns had been discarded, Officer Johnna Watson said.

A gun  had been recovered earlier during the search at another site a few blocks away but police are not sure if it belonged to the suspect.

Watson said officers  “used time, patience and communication” that allowed the man to  “peacefully surrender.”

Watson said the incident began about 7:25 a.m. Thursday when police received a call of a man with a gun at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Seminary Avenue.

No one had been shot and the man fled before officers could respond to the complex.

Police shut down  International Boulevard between Seminary and 58th avenues as well as some surrounding streets while they searched for the suspect.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted in the search.

A firearm was recovered in the 6000 block of International about 8:15 a.m. but no arrests were made.
