OAKLAND — A 50-year-old man was killed Monday morning in a West Oakland traffic collision, authorities said.
He was identified by the coroner’s office as Joseph Bennett III.
The collision happened about 1:50 a.m. in the 800 block of Frontage Road near Seventh Street, police said.
Police said Bennett, an Oakland resident, was driving a Ford Explorer southbound on Frontage Road when he crashed into the rear of a trailer that was parked in the center divider. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police traffic investigators have not said why Bennett was driving in the area, which is near some Port of Oakland terminals, but did say it is unknown at this time if speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
