SAN LEANDRO — A woman was attacked with a box cutter on a BART train Thursday night and another woman the victim knew was later arrested, authorities said Friday.
The attack happened about 10:30 p.m. Thursday on a Richmond bound train that was nearing the San Leandro Station, authorities said.
The bleeding victim, a Hayward resident, got off the train at the station where a station agent called BART police and medical personnel.
BART spokesman James Allision said the woman was slashed and stabbed several times and was taken to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.
Allison said the suspect, a 26-year-old San Francisco woman, appeared at the station while officers were there and was arrested. Police confiscated a box cutter from her.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.
Authorities said the women knew each other but a motive for the attack has not been confirmed.
