OAKLAND — Two men were shot within an hour Tuesday evening in different areas of the city, one multiple times as he sat in a car and the other at a homeless camp, authorities said.

Both men were in stable condition.

Police said about 6:15 p.m. a 20-year-old man who had just left a store and was sitting in a parked car in the 1700 block of Seminary Avenue in East Oakland was shot multiple times by a man who walked up to the vehicle.

Some other occupants of the car were not injured and drove the wounded man to a hospital, authorities said.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.

About 5:15 p.m. Tuesday a 46-year-old man was shot in the leg at a homeless camp in the 2200 block of Wood Street near West Grand Avenue in West Oakland. Police have not said if the man lived at the camp or was visiting someone there. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The man told police he was shot after he got into a dispute with another man over a personal item. It was not clear if the shooter lived at the camp; he had fled the scene before police arrived. Police did not say what the item was.

The Wood Street encampment stretches for several blocks on both the street and CalTrans property and is one of the largest in the city. There have been numerous shootings there over the years, including three non-fatal ones before Tuesday night’s.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money in each of Tuesday’s shootings for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
