OAKLAND — A 29-year-old man walked into a Pill Hill hospital Wednesday night with multiple gunshot wounds and police were trying to determine where the shooting happened, authorities said.
Before undergoing surgery, the man told hospital security staff only that the shooting occurred somewhere in Oakland, authorities said. The man was in stable condition after the surgery and investigators planned to interview him when he is able.
The man came to the hospital about 9:05 p.m. Wednesday on foot, authorities said. He was not dropped off by anyone in a vehicle.
At about the same time there was a report of gunshots in the 3500 block of Telegraph Avenue, which is near the hospital, authorities said.
There was no ShotSpotter activation in the area. Officers could not find any shell casings near the reported shots or any buildings or parked vehicles that were hit by gunfire.
Police said they hoped the victim would eventually be able to tell them where the shooting actually happened and give them a motive and description of the shooter.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
