OAKLAND — A 33-year-old woman was fatally shot early Friday near downtown, authorities said.
Her name was not immediately released but police said she lived in Hayward.
She was found shot about 4:07 a.m. Friday in the 1400 block of Castro Street, just east of Interstate 980. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police have not yet said why the woman was in Oakland or why they believe she was shot. No arrests were announced.
The killing is the 129th death investigated as a homicide by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has also investigated five other homicides on Oakland freeways. Last year Oakland police investigated 109 homicides in the city. There were 131 homicides in Oakland in 2012, the highest total since 148 homicides in 2006.
