Man shot Saturday in Oakland, drives to police station for help

OAKLAND — A 44-year-old man shot Saturday morning while driving in West Oakland was able to drive about a mile to police headquarters where he flagged down officers for help, authorities said.

The man is expected to recover from his wound.

The man told police he was stopped for a traffic light at the intersection of Seventh and Adeline streets about 9 a.m. Saturday when he was shot by someone outside his car.

Despite bleeding profusely he was able to drive to the 600 block of Washington Street outside police headquarters where he contacted some officers coming out of the building.

He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

A description of a suspect was not released. Police don’t have a motive for the shooting and have not made any arrests.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
