FREMONT — A passenger was killed and both drivers suffered major injuries in a two-vehicle collision Friday morning, police said.
The name of person killed, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, has not been released. Authorities have not yet said if the person is a man or woman.
The collision happened about 2:32 a.m. Friday at Thornton Avenue and the Interstate 880 offramp.
The two vehicles were found at the intersection with major damage.
The two drivers and the passenger were taken to local hospitals where the passenger later died.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that one of the vehicles was traveling westbound on Thornton Avenue and the second vehicle was northbound on the I-880 off ramp.
A witness told investigators the vehicle exiting I-880 had a green light to enter the intersection. As the vehicles approached the intersection, the westbound vehicle struck the vehicle exiting the off ramp. The driver of the westbound vehicle is a Fremont resident, and the driver of the other vehicle is a resident of Newark. Police did not say if the drivers were men or women or how old they are. Police also have not yet said what vehicle the person who died was in.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, police said.
This is the third fatal traffic collision of the year in Fremont, authorities said.
