OAKLAND — A 27-year-old man man was found fatally shot in East Oakland on Thursday morning, authorities said.
His name has not yet been released but he is believed to be an Oakland resident.
He was found dead at about 7:47 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of Nevada Street near Edes Avenue in the Brookfield Village area. It was not immediately known how long the man had been there before he was found by a passerby.
Police blocked off streets in the area while they canvassed for possible witnesses and video surveillance.
Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.
The killing is the 37th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the second in East Oakland in less than nine hours. A 60-year-old woman was fatally shot at a homeless camp on 77th Avenue just before 9 p.m. Wednesday. Last year at this time police had investigated 14 homicides in the city.
