OAKLAND — A 58-year-old man deliberately set on fire last week in East Oakland has died from his injuries, authorities said Tuesday.

He was identified as William Vann, a transient who may have been living out of a vehicle in the area, authorities said.

Vann was found at about 8:10 p.m. March 3 outside in the 500 block of Douglas Avenue in the Brookfield Village neighborhood with major burns over two-thirds of his body.

Police said he had gotten into a dispute with another man who doused him with some kind of accelerant and then ignited it.

He was taken to a San Francisco hospital where he died Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Police have not yet determined what the dispute was about and have not made any arrests in the case.

The death is the 28th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated seven homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
