ALAMEDA– A 20-year-old man has pleaded not guilty in the armed robbery of two residents inside their home Nov. 4, according to court documents and authorities.
The suspect, who lived near the victims’ home, is charged with two counts of first degree residential robbery with special allegations that he was armed with a handgun and that the robberies were committed during a burglary.
He faces a mandatory prison sentence if convicted of the charges, and is being held at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $400,000 bail. He is due in court Dec. 15 for a preliminary hearing.
According to authorities and court documents, the suspect entered the residents’ home on Glenview Street at about 8:30 a.m. Nov. 4, most likely through an open window, and confronted them at gunpoint. The two residents are related but police have not said how.
He demanded money and led the two residents throughout the residence in search of money and electronics, the documents say.
Among the items he fled with were the victims’ cell phones which police were able to trace to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of nearby Orion Street where the suspect lived, according to the documents.
Police reviewed video surveillance from the complex and saw him leaving his apartment before the robbery and returning there about three minutes after the robbery wearing a uniquely designed jacket like that worn by the robber. He was also carrying one of the items stolen from the couple, the documents state. He was arrested at the apartment Nov. 12 and charged Monday.
