OAKLAND — A man was killed by a stray bullet and eight other people were wounded, including two juveniles, in a series of Oakland shootings between Friday evening and Saturday morning, police said.
All of those wounded are expected to recover and none of the shootings appear to be related at this time, authorities said.
The fatal shooting happened about 2:13 a.m. Saturday in the 4400 block of International Boulevard in the Fruitvale district. The name of the man killed, a 40-year-old Oakland resident, was not released.
Police said he and another man, 36, he did not know, had just left a club in the area.
The 36-year-old man was standing at bus stop in the 4600 block of International Blvd. when someone began shooting at him. The shooter continued to fire at the man as he ran westbound on International, police said.
The 36-year-old man was hit multiple times and one of the bullets that missed him hit the 40-year-old man who was standing in the 4400 block of International, Officer Phong Tran said. Tran said the man killed was not an intended target.
The 40-year-old man died at the scene and the other man was taken to a hospital.
Police don’t have a motive yet for the shooting and have not made any arrests.
At 10:51 p.m. Friday a 21-year-old man was shot in the area of 101st Avenue and International Boulevard. He told officers he was shot by someone who robbed him but was unclear about what was taken from him, said police, who hope to get more details later from the man who was taken to a hospital.
The shooting where the juveniles were wounded happened about 10:38 p.m. Friday in the 6800 block of Leona Creek Drive, a housing development off 66th Avenue in East Oakland.
Police said a 14-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were on their way home from getting some food when they said they heard gunfire and saw they had been shot.
They could not say if the shooter was on the street or in a vehicle or why someone would want to shoot at them.
They were taken to different hospitals and were in stable condition.
Police did not say if the three victims were related. No motive has been determined yet and no arrests have been made.
About 10:28 p.m. Friday a 22-year-old man was shot in the area of 65th and Bancroft avenues. He told police he was walking when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot.
He was taken to a hospital. Police don’t have a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.
About 10 p.m. Friday a 27-year-old man was brought to a hospital with a gunshot wound. He told officers he was shot earlier in the 1700 block of West Grand Avenue in West Oakland but was vague on the details, police said. No motive has been determined and no arrests made.
About 5:38 p.m. Friday an 18-year-old man was shot in the 5000 block of International Boulevard. He told police he was standing on the street when someone got out of a car and began shooting at him.
He was able to run into a nearby store where police were called and he was taken to a hospital. No motive has been determined and no arrests made in the shooting.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the homicide and up to $5,000 in reward money for each victim in the other shootings.
