OAKLAND — A 12 year-old girl and and 14 year-old girl were arrested Thursday on suspicion of robbing another girl of her cellphone on board a BART train in Oakland, authorities said.
The robbery happened at about 5:40 p.m. Thursday as train neared the West Oakland station. Authorities said the victim, a 14 year-old Oakland girl, had her cellphone snatched from her while she was riding the train.
The two suspects, both from Hayward, were arrested within minutes, but the phone was not recovered. Besides robbery, the two suspects were also arrested on suspicion of dissuading a witness after they allegedly threatened a witness of the robbery to not talk to police.
Both girls booked at Alameda County Juvenile Hall. Authorities did not say if the two suspects were related or knew the victim.
On Wednesday, a similar cellphone theft also occurred in Berkeley. A 15 year-old Richmond boy was arrested at the Ashby BART station on suspicion of robbing a 20-year old Oakland woman of her iPhone 6 while she rode a train.
The suspect was later arrested, but was released to his parents. The woman’s phone was not recovered.
